Impact DHA
Docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6, n-3) or in short DHA is 1 of the key essential Omega 3 fatty acids, mainly coming from fatty fish and Algae oils. DHA as an individual Omega 3 fatty acid is mainly linked to brain and eye development and thus linked to Early life nutrition as well as to Adult nutrition eg for pregnant women and elderly.
According to the new EU regulation (regulation 2016/127) for Infant formula’s (age 0-6 months) and follow-on formula’s (from 6 months of age) the minimum required quantity of DHA added must be 20-50 mg for every 100 kcal (the equivalent of 0.5-1% of total fatty acids) for all formulas intended for infants from the moment of birth, which implies an amount greater than the current one in most commercial formulas.
Driven by innovation and with a 100% focus on sustainability Impact Ingredients has developed the following high quality Impact DHA Omega-3 products:
- DHA Fish (Tuna) oil infant and adult grade (25% DHA)
- DHA Algae (Schizochytrium sp.) oil infant and adult grade (40% DHA), winterized and non winterized
- DHA Fish (Tuna) powder infant and adult grade (11% and 7% DHA)
- DHA Algae (Schizochytrium sp.) powder infant and adult grade (18% and 11% DHA), under development
Impact EPA
Eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5, n-3) or in short EPA is 1 of the key essential Omega 3 fatty acids, mainly coming from fatty fish. As the positive health benefits following scientific studies are mostly linked to heart and cardiovascular health this ingredient is mostly used in Adult nutrition like in Medical nutrition and Dietary supplements.
Impact Ingredients objective has been to develop the best quality Medical grade EPA fish oil being also Kosher as well as Halal:
- EPA Fish (Anchovy) oil adult grade (min. 16% EPA)
Impact ARA
Arachidonic acid (20:4, n-6) or in short ARA is an omega-6 fatty acid (unsaturated fat) and is naturally produced in the body from the essential Omega 6 fatty acid LA and can also be ingested through different foods, mostly meats and eggs. Scientific studies show ARA is vital for the general development (and brain and eyes specifically) and growth of infants as well as activating a healthy immune system. Same as DHA, ARA is a major component in breast milk. Breast milk is vital for infants because the amount of ARA (next to DHA) naturally supplemented (through production and diet) is less than their bodies require.
Following the EU regulation (EFSA) ARA remains an optional ingredient and is not required to be added to the finished product for Infants. The scientific experts also note that it is yet to be determined what the minimal and optimal intake levels of ARA will be. However, with levels of DHA up to 0.64% of total fatty acids, they recommend adding ARA in at least equal amounts to that of DHA, which is in line with the recommendation of the Codex Alimentarius. Following this, ARA has been added into Infant formulas in developed countries for many years now (since 2001 in the USA) with usually ARA:DHA ratio’s between 1:1 and 2:1.
ARA is also very beneficial for Adult nutrition. In the normal inflammatory processes ARA gets activated during injury or irritation. It then gets converted into inflammatory molecules that help heal and restore the function of damaged tissues. Therefore, the supplementation of ARA have also gained popularity in Adult nutrition for their supposed benefits in strength training and bodybuilding. Moreover, it also plays other important roles in the body such as boosting the immune response.
Driven by innovation and with a 100% focus on sustainability Impact Ingredients has developed the following high quality Impact ARA Omega-6 products:
- ARA Fungi (Mortierella alpina) oil infant and adult grade (40% ARA)
- ARA Fungi (Mortierella alpina) powder infant and adult grade (18% and 11% ARA), under development
Impact MCT
MCT oils are medium-chain triglycerides, a form of saturated fatty acids and they are normally found in coconut oil, palmkernel oil and all kinds of dairy (fat) products like cheese, butter, milk and yoghurt.
Medium-chain fats are believed to be one of the most easily digested, utilized and protective fatty acids that exists. Therefore, MCT products are used in Infant formula for special medical purposes (FSMP’s) linked to disturbances of digestion and absorption as well as for premature babies. MCT is not recommended as an additive to standard formulas for healthy children.
For Adult nutrition, MCT is used in Medical nutrition products for people with maldigestion and/or malabsorption, but they can also be very beneficial for Weight management and Sport nutrition products. MCT’s are especially helpful for those following very low-carb diets, including the ketogenic diet (eg also in “bulletproof” coffee). For the use in Sport nutrition, in scientific studies MCT’s have shown to help support exercise performance during moderate- and high-intensity exercise.
A wide range of MCT dosages have been used in Adult nutrition studies, from about 5 to 70 grams daily depending on the specific application and objective(s).

Impact Oil Blends
All Impact Ingredients product solutions can be blended into tailor made fixed fatty acid profiles following their partner customers needs. This allows them to use the right combination of added value solutions with the benefit that they do not need to dose them seperately in their factories producing the final product(s). As the oil product solutions are very sensitive to oxidation when in contact with air (oxygen), one does not want to leave the high quality packaging open (and lose the nitrogen blanketing) after only using part the product. Please contact us to discuss and implement your tailor made Impact Oil blend solution.
Impact Cosmetic Oils
Impact Ingredients offers a wide range of specialty vegetable oils specifically for the Cosmetic market.
